Vietnam Digital Government, organized by Hanoi Department of Information and Communication and IDG Vietnam has been serving as a prestigious platform for government leaders and technology professionals to meet and share experiences as well as discuss key initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness in e-Government. In recent years, the application of IT in state operations has been becoming the top priority for the development of digital government in particular and the promotion of socio-economy in general. According to Resolution 36a/NQ-CP firstly issued on last October 2015 by the Government of Vietnam, 2015-2016 is the key period to boost the development of digital government through the application of IT. There are three indexes including online public services, telecommunication infrastructure and human resource which contribute fundamental factors for digital government development. Also, they are the major tasks for evolution route of digital government in accordance of the Resolution. Along with the enhancement of digital government is the development of smart cities. However, the pathway for smart cities development still faces many difficulties, especially in transportation or transparency improvement of government activities. Hence, it is essential for government and relevant agencies to tightly corporate and strongly determine in implementation process. In this context, Vietnam Digital Government 2016 features the theme “Digital Government for Modern Infrastructure, Smart Public Services, Greater Transparency and Citizen Engagement”. The Conference keeps discussing and assessing the status and seeking solutions for the IT application in digital government development which aims to create a premise for smart cities advancement currently and in the future.
